The Story
Michelin XZX: Modern Performance for the Vintage Purist
Price is for all 4 with FREE* Freight!
Michelin’s Classic line is essentially a love letter to automotive history. By combining original factory specifications with modern material science, these tires allow you to maintain your car's authentic driving feel without the "white-knuckle" risks of aging rubber. They are produced in small batches specifically for collectors who refuse to compromise on period-correct aesthetics.
A Legacy of Refinement
The XZX arrived in 1975 as the evolved successor to the ZX and the legendary "X" tire. At the time, it was a major leap forward, introducing deeper circumferential channels and a much higher sipe density. The goal was simple: take the classic Grand Touring experience and make it reliable in the rain.
Old School Look, New School Grip
While this latest release of the XZX looks identical to the 70s original, the rubber compound is entirely modern. It’s designed to be smarter on the road:
-
Consistent Contact: The "stepped" tread design ensures the ribs stay glued to the pavement for predictable handling.
-
Wet Weather Mastery: Wide grooves and intersecting sipes work together to evacuate water, significantly reducing the risk of hydroplaning.
-
Tactile Flex: Independent tread blocks provide enough "give" to handle rougher backroads or sudden changes in surface quality.
What’s Under the Tread?
The internal architecture is where the modern safety standards really shine. Michelin has reinforced the classic silhouette with a build quality that handles high speeds far better than the originals ever could.
