The Story

914Rubber Differential and Transmission Magnetic Drain Plug for Porsche 356, 911, 912, 914, and 928

Protect your Porsche’s transmission and differential with the 914Rubber Differential and Transmission Magnetic Drain Plug, compatible with Porsche 356 (1950-65), 911 (1965-89), 912 (1965-69, 1976), 914 (1970-76), and 928 (1978-86). PMB Performance, with 20 years of Porsche expertise, is the leading 914Rubber retailer, selling more of their SKUs than anyone else. Our nearly two-decade partnership with 914Rubber ensures you get OEM-quality parts backed by deep technical knowledge.

This OEM magnetic drain plug (Part #999.064.020.02) is designed for 901 and 915 transmissions and differentials, featuring a rare-earth magnet to capture ferrous particles, protecting gears and bearings. Made from high-strength steel with an M22 tapered thread, it’s a direct replacement for both differential and gear housing plugs, as the non-magnetic version is discontinued. PMB Performance has used these in countless rebuilds, with customers noting, “Clean oil changes and no metal shavings in the gear oil!” Two plugs are required per car—one for the differential, one for the transmission.

Why this part? Worn or stripped drain plugs can leak, and non-magnetic plugs miss metal debris, risking wear on critical components. This plug’s magnet traps particles, extending transmission life, especially in 914s where mid-engine dynamics stress gears. It’s built for durability and a perfect seal, preventing costly repairs. For installation tips, including torque specs (30 Nm with a new seal ring, Part #900.123.011.30, not included), visit 914Rubber’s Tribal Knowledge Wiki.

Installation requires a 19mm socket, torque wrench, and a new seal ring. Drain the old fluid, remove the old plug, and install the new one with a fresh seal ring, torquing to 30 Nm to ensure a leak-free fit. Inspect the magnet during future oil changes to monitor gear health. Two plugs are needed per car, compatible with all specified Porsche models with 901/915 transmissions.

With PMB Performance’s 20 years of Porsche restoration experience and 914Rubber’s precision engineering, this magnetic drain plug delivers reliability and peace of mind. Whether you’re maintaining a 914 or rebuilding a 911’s gearbox, trust us to keep your Porsche running smoothly. Questions? Call (855) 786-7101 or email [email protected].
